Khimky forces decider!

Khimki Moscow Region (Coach: Rimas Kurtinaitis) defeated Lokomotiv-Kuban Krasnodar (Coach: Sergey Bazarevich) on the road, 76-67, in Game 4 of the playoff semifinals. Khimki got hot early on from beyond the arc, putting together an 18-0 run in the 2nd quarter. Lokomotiv came back in the second half, but never overcame the 22-point deficit. Khimki was on the brink of elimination after the devastating loss in Game 3. Someone needed to step up and that player was Marko Popovic. He's had lots of nagging injuries throughout the season and struggled to play at his typical level, but he came through on the biggest stage. Popovic's 3-pointers and 13 points in the first half helped Khimki take complete control of the game. The Croat's big game sparked a terrific performance from Khimki on the road. The series returns to Moscow Region for a decisive Game 5 on Saturday.

VTB League Semifinals - Round 3

1 basketballCSKA Moscow defeated Nizhny Novgorod on the road, 92-80, claimed the third consecutive victory over Ainars Batasksis' team and swept the VTB League semifinal series. Victor Khryapa scored 9 points, had 5 rebounds, 1 assists and 1 block for CSKA.

Lokomotiv-Kuban Krasnodar (coach: Sergei Bazarevich) defeated Khimki Moscow Region (coach: Rimas Kurtinaitis) at home, 78-55, in Game 3 of the semifinals. Kuban jumped in front early, before Khimki clawed back and took a one-point lead at halftime. The 2nd half, however, belonged to the home team. They held Khimki to 16 points in the final two quarters to enjoy a 23-point win. Game 4 will be played on Wednesday. Ruslan Pateev registered 11 points and 7 rebounds, Tyrese Rice added 11 points, five assists and 3 rebounds. Petteri Koponen had 8. Sergey Monya scored 5 points.

VTB Semifinals - Round 2

1 basketballLokomotiv-Kuban defeated Khimki on the road, 83-76, in Game 2 of the playoff semifinals. After a closely contested 1st quarter, Kuban pulled away by 14 in the second period. Khimki put together an impressive comeback in the final quarter, but Loko emerged victorious, bailed out by a clutch Derrick Brown three. Ruslan Pateev and Patteri Koponen scored 18 points each. Marko Popovic, Sergey Monya and Egor Vyaltsev netted 9 points each. Tyrese Rice added 7 and 8 assists. The Red-Greens even the series and steal home court advantage. Game 3 will be played on Monday in Krasnodar.

In the second game CSKA Moscow defeated Nizhny Novgorod (coach: Ainars Bagatskis) at home, 97-77, in Game 2 of the playoff semifinals. The Army Men's 29-17 advantage in the 2nd quarter was the key to victory. Nizhny tried to mount several comebacks in the second half, but never got closer than 10-12 points. Vitaly Fridzon had 2 points, Viktor Khryapa added 2 and 7 rebounds. CSKA takes a 2-0 lead as the series shifts to Nizhny Novgorod.

CSKA won the opener

CSKA Moscow defeated Nizhny Novgorod (coach: Ainars Bagatskis) at home, 86-79, in Game 1 of the playoff semifinals. Leading by 14 at halftime as much as 17 early in the 3rd quarter, the Army Men appeared in total control. But Nizhny had other plans, ripping off a 31-12 run over 10 minutes to force an exciting finish. Vitaly Fridzon scored 2 points The Army Men take Game 1.
